Sector of the fort on the slope of the river where the last excavation campaign was carried out.
In the years 1920-1930, excavation campaigns were carried out by the archaeologist Cayetano de Mergelina on this south-facing slope of the river. The last campaign was carried out in 2016 and consisted of re-excavating that slope, expanding the sector. In 2018 and 2019, the restoration of this excavated area was carried out. For more than 6 months, a team of archaeologists excavated this space, which allowed them to discover a different urban planning compared to other areas of the fort already studied. In addition, many remains of interest were found that will allow us to better understand the castreño culture of the Castro de Santa Trega. Among the thousands of ceramic fragments, a head carved in stone stands out, in which the eyes, mouth and nose can be seen, which is already on display in the Museum.
