Roman coastal saltworks of O Seixal

Roman coastal saltworks of O Seixal

On the coastal path, 1.50 km south of the port, these salt mines from Roman times are located, in operation when the Castro de Santa Trega was still inhabited.
In a natural and protected environment is O Seixal, which is a concentration of boulders or rounded stones with the action of the sea over the years. It is located in the first meters of the beginning of the wooden path towards the mouth of the Miño. These Roman saltworks were recently excavated and show part of the pools of an ancient sea salt industry. Thanks to the evaporation of water, large quantities were obtained for trade.
