Church and Convent of San Benito

Church and Convent of San Benito

Since the 16th century, the religious order of San Benito had a presence with this nunnery built in the fishing port.
This architectural complex was founded in the s. XVI by the Ozores de Sotomayor family and over the centuries the order and its nuns had great complicity with the neighbors, training generations in their school. The church, small and deteriorated, was rebuilt in the 17th century and is still dedicated to religious worship. On the baroque-style side doorway are the family coats of arms and those of the order of Saint Benedict. The nuns left the convent in 1983 and after the renovation the convent became a hotel and restaurant.
