Fisherman Monument
This sculptural work by José Antúnez Pousa is located on Porto Street as a tribute to the sailor with the traditional boat.
In 1991 this monument was installed after a renovation of Porto Street. It is located a few meters from the southern dock and the bustle of the sailors in their daily tasks.The author, José Antúñez Pousa, shows the harshness of the sailor's profession in A Guarda by representing a sailor hoisting the net from the gamela, which is a traditional boat. It also pays tribute to the essential work of women with the development and maintenance of fishing nets.
South dock and fish market
